General Legal Advice Questions

My neighbour has put a camera on the side of his house pointing directly at my back door, and there’’s also more electrical equipment round the front. I now hate going out because I feel I’’m constantly being watched and visitors to my house are monitored. The worry of it is actually affecting my health.

I was accused of theft by a supermarket. The manager apologised to me but they’’ve refused to pay me compensation.

We own half of what was originally a detached house. The other half has been divided into four flats and I am constantly having to unblock their drains which cross our garden. The owners of the flats say it’’s nothing to do with them and the freeholder has ignored my letters and ‘phone calls.

My wife has Alzheimer’s and I am worried that she may need to go into care. I was told that she will have to pay, but I now hear that in the case of mental issues this rule does not apply.

I left my car outside a shop and when I returned one of the wing mirrors was smashed. The driver of the lorry responsible left his name, address and telephone number in the shop saying he would “sort it out”, but although I’’ve ‘phoned him many times he still hasn’’t paid the £250 it cost to repair the mirror.

The local authority is demanding the sum of £895 in council tax from me for the period 2005/6. This relates to the property I own and live in. What’’s the position with this? I am up to date with payments for all other years.

My next door neighbour’s house is in a terrible state, he hasn’’t done any repairs to it in years. I am now planning to sell my house, and the state of his property is going to affect the price. What can I do about it?

Where I live some shopkeepers have taken to placing advertising boards on the pavements, which are already cluttered with traffic signs and telegraph poles. It means pedestrians, including those with mobility problems, often have to go into the road to get round them. Isn’’t it illegal to obstruct the highway like this?

A couple of cowboy builders have gone off with my money leaving my house in a pretty awful state. They said they were working for the manufacturers of the plastic guttering and fascia boards they were using. I know of several other people who have also been taken in by them: is there anything we can do?
