We stored our home contents, including many heirlooms, at the premises of a removals firm. When a fire gutted the storage rooms we were stunned to learn that our losses were not covered, even though the firm claims on its letterheads and in its advertisements that the service is fully insured. We are running into a brick wall when we try to discuss compensation.
Do they advertise that the storage as well as the removal service is insured? If they accepted responsibility for the safety of your possessions while they were in storage then insured or not they are liable to compensate you. You should draw up a list of the items destroyed in the fire, providing as much evidence of their value as you can muster. A solicitors letter to the company would be a good first step.
