Areas of Law / Employment

One of the girls I work with tells me that a senior member of staff made several improper advances towards her in his office. I don’t feel I can just ignore this, but there’s going to be trouble whatever I do.

Unwanted sexual advances are a serious matter and it is your employer’s duty to investigate complaints properly. Your friend would have to inform her immediate boss, or, if he is the subject of the complaint, a personnel officer or other director. Names of any witnesses prepared to help should also be supplied. If the boss’s conduct has been very serious it might be appropriate for the police to be involved. If the company attempt to cover up the facts, or worse, turn against your friend, she should seek urgent advice from a solicitor.
