Areas of Law / Employment

I’ve worked for a firm since leaving school six years ago. They won’t give me a pay slip, and I’ve been treated like dirt since I demanded a P60 last year, telling them I should have one by law. My friends don’t get the minimum wage, and we don’t think our employer is paying tax and national insurance contributions for us.

Contact your local tax office (which also handles national insurance contributions). They will probably agree to carry out a “random audit check” without implicating you. You are entitled to an itemised pay slip by law, so if all else fails you can apply to an employment tribunal. If your friends are 25 or over they should be paid at least £7.50 an hour. They can ring Acas on 0300 1231100 for further advice.
