I work as a fork lift driver in a large distribution warehouse. The floors are constantly wet, and even driving cautiously the trucks often go out of control. We’re told that if we injure anyone we would be liable. But surely the company would be responsible since I am their representative?
If someone were injured they would be advised to bring a claim for compensation against the company, since they have insurance. You would be a material witness. Your training and supervision would come under scrutiny, as would your work environment and the way you were driving. All areas of work are now risk assessed. You should report this risk in writing to your supervisor now so it can be properly recorded and dealt with to prevent future accidents.
