I have parked my car in the same street for some 25 years while attending church services. Recently the road has been painted with double yellow lines, and when I returned to my car I found a parking ticket attached to the windscreen. However the traffic warden wrote down the wrong road name on the ticket. Will the traffic warden’s mistake make the notice invalid?
I’m afraid not. In order to try to have a Penalty Charge Notice overturned you would have to contact the local authority to make an “informal challenge”. If this is rejected you have the opportunity to make a formal challenge, setting out your reasons in detail but I don’t think they’d let you off the fine on the basis that your car was illegally parked in one place as opposed to another!
