When our boiler stopped working the plumbers discovered that my daughter had accidentally shut off the gas by hanging her coat on the lever. However they’ve still sent us a bill for £75 even though they discovered the problem within a matter of seconds. Do we have to pay it?
Most plumbing firms have a call out charge and will then add parts and labour time on top of that. I think it would be considered reasonable for you to pay the firm for coming to your house: normally they would tell you in advance what they charge. You could try offering them less; if they won’t accept your offer you will have to pay the bill or run the risk of being taken to the small claims court. Either way you should dock your daughters pocket money!
