Areas of Law / Insurance law

We rented a caravan for a week. Towards the end of the stay there was a fire, and we lost all our belongings. The owners said the site manager was dealing with the insurers, but after being passed backwards and forwards the owners are not now responding to our letters. We just want payment for the clothes and other items we lost.

You don’t say how the fire started. If you caused the blaze it’s possible the insurers could look to you to pay for the damage you caused. If on the other hand there was a fault with the caravan which caused it to ignite then you will be entitled to compensation from the owners. If the fire brigade was called you should try to get hold of their report as to the cause. You may have to sue the caravan owners for your losses.
