Areas of Law / Insurance law

We had a car accident four weeks ago. We got in touch with our insurance company, but they say we weren’t insured because they never received the premium when it came up for renewal nearly a year ago. However we do have a current, date-stamped certificate of insurance from them. Does this count?

If you made no attempt to pay it’s unlikely that you personally will be covered. However if you do have a current certificate it could mean that the insurers will still be obliged to meet any third party claim resulting from the accident, even if they are then entitled to attempt to recover their losses from you. If a lot of money is at stake you should perhaps show the document to a solicitor and explain the circumstances.
