Areas of Law / General Legal Advice

My neighbour and I have both been considering buying replacement double-glazed windows and he has suggested that we contract for the two houses in order to get a better price. What sort of redress would I have though if he failed to pay his share?

The answer really is to negotiate together in order to get a better deal on your double glazing, but to sign separate contracts with the double-glazing firm. That way you will have no responsibility for your neighbour’s payments. If you sign a single contract jointly and he defaults on his payments you could find yourself responsible for the whole debt, depending on the wording of the contract, and would then have to try to sue your neighbour for the money.
