Last August I paid the property management company that collects my ground rent £96 to provide a quote for the cost of buying my freehold. Their website stated that a written quote would be sent within ten days, but I have received nothing. They don’t answer the phone or respond to emails. What can I do?
You have paid for a service which you haven’t received, so you should write to the firm (since you have their address) demanding either a refund or the quote within 14 days and threatening legal action if neither is forthcoming. It’s probably not worth suing for £96, but your letter may prompt action. You have a legal right under the Leasehold Reform Act 1967 to purchase your freehold, but the “informal” method offered by your collection agency is usually cheaper.
