Areas of Law / Divorce and Family

In 2004 my ex-husband was ordered to pay me maintenance of £30 a week. He has now left the army and has stopped paying the money. Am I still entitled to maintenance?

The original court order will say how long the maintenance payments are to continue. Your maintenance should not cease just because your ex-husband has changed jobs. He can apply to the court to vary the order in view of the change in his circumstances, but you can also apply to court to enforce payment and to increase the existing amount paid. Whether or not the order is varied will depend on your own and your former husband’s financial circumstances. See a solicitor.
