I’m being chased by a debt collection agency for debts that are nothing to do with me. They keep ringing me and making threats, but they won’t take me to court so I can prove it. Any advice?
If you’re sure of your ground, ignore the calls, or ask for an address you can write to in order to point out the agency’s error. It can be a criminal offence to harass a debtor by making demands calculated to alarm, distress or humiliate him or members of his family, so if the calls are over-frequent you may wish to point this out.
