Areas of Law / Employment

I was promised a pay rise and other benefits in a signed letter from the boss so that I wouldn’’t leave to take a job with another firm but when pay day came the extra money wasn’’t included, and my boss now says he’’s not willing to honour his promise. Where do I go from here?

If the other job is still available you could leave, and claim against the firm you’’re working for at the moment for your unpaid wages. If it isn’’t, and your boss still won’t keep his word after you’’ve exhausted the firm’s grievance procedures, you can apply to an employment tribunal and claim an illegal deduction from wages, which is a statutory right and gives you automatic protection from dismissal. The signed letter now forms part of your employment contract.
