Areas of Law / Employment

I am a student at university and, to make ends meet, I got a part-time job as a sales administrator and was told about racial equality between employees, but after just a week I was told my personality wasn’t right and my services were no longer required. Was I unfairly dismissed?

If you think the reason for your dismissal was based on racial grounds you should send a standard form questionnaire (obtainable from the Citizens’ Advice Bureau or Equal Opportunities Commission) to your employer. The answers supplied can be used as evidence when presenting your case to an employment tribunal. If no discrimination was involved you have no case.  You have to have been employed for two years before you can bring a claim for unfair dismissal.
