Areas of Law / Employment

I was sacked for gross misconduct. I have taken my case to an employment tribunal, but now my employer has totally changed the reasons why I was sacked and is denigrating my character without any evidence to back it up. What can people do in this situation?

I’m afraid people can’t always be relied upon to tell the truth! Your employer should already have sent you a written explanation of your alleged misconduct, including evidence, and given you the right of appeal. If your employer is shifting his ground or has failed to follow this statutory procedure it suggests he realises your dismissal was unfair. You will have to gather as much evidence as you can to support your version of events. You should probably see a solicitor.
