Areas of Law / Wills and Probate

I recently made a will and appointed my solicitor executor. However I forgot to ask what his fee would be, and I’ve been told he would be entitled to 40% of the estate. Is this correct? The estate would be valued at, roughly, £80,000.

Your solicitor will probably charge you a comparatively small amount – between £100 and £200 – for drawing up your will, depending on how complicated it is. He or she will then make a further charge to your estate on your death for sorting out your affairs. Again, the more complicated they are, the more it will cost, but a typical charge would be two per cent of the estate. Ask your solicitor what the fees are likely to be.
