Areas of Law / Divorce and Family

I lived with a woman for more than twenty years, and we bought two properties together. We put the deeds in her name to prevent my ex-wife trying to get her hands on them. We have now split up and she is trying to evict me from one of the houses. What are my rights as her common-law husband?

With unmarried couples the law is primarily concerned with whose name is on the title deeds. In order to establish a claim to joint ownership of the properties you will need to produce evidence of an agreement to share, of financial contributions you made, and of work you have done on the properties to increase their value. This may be very difficult to find at this stage. You need to see a solicitor as quickly as possible.
