Am I entitled to obtain the result of a case which recently went before the Magistrates’ Court, where presumably both the press and the public would have had a right of attendance?
Anyone can telephone or visit the List Office at the Magistrates or Crown courts to discover the outcome of trials as and when they happen. There’s sometimes a slight delay between a case ending and the result being recorded by the magistrates’ clerk, but the List Office should be able to provide the details you require within 24 hours of a case ending, and should have instant access to the outcomes of recent cases. Once the results have gone into the archives they may be more difficult to find, but they are still a matter of public record and you are entitled to see them.
