Divorce and Family Questions

When my son was divorced his wife got the house and a waiver was signed to release him from the mortgage. His ex-wife sold the house within 12 months. Now the bank has written to my son saying he owes them £27,000. It seems the waiver wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.

My daughter married a wealthy man a year ago. She has two sons by a previous marriage, while he has two older children. He recently suggested making a will so that, if he dies first, my daughter can continue to live in the house but with the property eventually going to his own children. My daughter is worried that the children would evict her. What’s the position?

An elderly aunt has been in a nursing home for six years. We have run all her errands and looked after her financial affairs. Recently she told us she has made a will leaving her home to the church, and we now wish to pass on our duties to someone else. How do we go about this?

Since my wife and I split up last year she has been using her position with a finance company to find out how I am managing financially. She tells me she has contacted the credit reference agencies to find out if I have paid off a debt, presumably in the hope that our joint creditors will come after me, not her. Is this illegal?

My boyfriend pays maintenance for his six-year-old son by his former partner, and sees him once a week. He’d like him to stay with us overnight or for a weekend. Is he entitled to this? His ex-partner says the boy is too young.

After my divorce in 1991 my new partner and I bought a home together. Then I bought another property in my name which I renovated and let out. My partner, who is 13 years younger than me, has now left after 24 years. What will she be entitled to?

My son was divorced many years ago. At the time they agreed verbally that the wife could have their shares and savings and he was to have the house, although at the time there was no equity in it. She is now threatening to take him to court for her half of the property.

What steps need to be taken by a prospective bridegroom, before the wedding takes place, so that he can adopt his new wife’s surname, as opposed to the other way round?

I recently married and have found out that at the time of the wedding my wife was almost two months pregnant with another man’s child. I am angry and want an immediate divorce, but I understand that this isn’t possible until I have been married a year.
