Questions

My daughter got hold of my cheque book and cheque card and, forging my signature, made cheques out to herself to the value of about £3,400. Shouldn’t the bank have checked the signature, and am I entitled to my money back?

My son and I are joint owners of the house I live in; he lives elsewhere. Is it correct that when I die my half share goes to the joint owner ie. my son, since I have another son to whom I would like to leave something?

I won my case at an employment tribunal. The date on which I should have received my money has now gone, and I believe the company I used to work for has put in an appeal. What steps can I take now, other than going to the County Court?

Recently we discovered that our neighbour has had a CCTV camera trained on our back garden for the last two years. We sent her a solicitor’s letter requiring her to move it within seven days, but we can’t afford to take the matter further and the camera is still there. We can’t cope with the thought of her spying on us; is there any advice you can give?

My husband is a farmer and is having trouble gaining access to one of his fields. Two families who bought cottages on the lane leading to the field say they bought the lane when they bought the houses in 1997, and that my husband lost his right of way then. Can a right of way in use by others be bought by someone else?

Nearly ten years ago I was forced to volunteer my house for repossession. It was subsequently sold via an agent for £16,000 less than the original mortgage. I’m not in a position to repay the shortfall, but would like to move out of my council house and enter the housing market again. What would be my prospects of obtaining another mortgage?

I got a self-employed plasterer to do a bathroom ceiling for me. He accidentally put his foot through the bath, leaving a gaping hole. His insurance company says he wasn’t covered for “new for old”, so their offer is quite a bit short of what it will cost to replace the bath. Does this mean I will have to pay the difference?

I had an arranged marriage in Pakistan three years ago. We had a baby girl, and my wife’s mother came over on a six month visa. Now my wife has vanished with her mother, who is obviously outstaying her visa; I haven’t seen the baby for three months. Is there anything I can do?

I have worked for a security firm for just under a year earning an average of £230 a week but when I took ten days’ holiday recently I was paid the equivalent of £146 a week. How can I get this sorted out?
